Years after my first trip to Astoria, I had the chance to come back in 2010 for the 25th anniversary of the Goonies. I unfortunately missed the 20th anniversary in 2005. This time I came with a friend, Vincent. We were in the USA for a full month, 1 week to Astoria for the event and 3 weeks in NYC and around to film some sequences for a documentary project about ‘80s movies. We went to various film locations including Ghostbusters, Labyrinth, Beetlejuice and of course.. Goonies.
In 2004, the town of Astoria was pretty « empty » with no Goonies merchandises.. but in 2010 the event was pretty big and the town was full of Goonies fans. It was also the grand opening of the Oregon Film Museum.
Vincent and I stayed at the Goonies house… in the attic :) Since 2004 the attic has been done and became a full nice room. We were sleeping in 2 air mastress.
That was amazing to wake up in this house. The mornings we checked the window and saw all the fans outside.
The anniversary went well, it was a very cool and well organized event. We met the actors and I was happy to have a media pass to get more access.
That was also so cool to meet fans I met online on the website forum theGoonies.org ! I met people from Italy, England and even some other french fans !
My only big regret of that trip... my hair. They were awful ahahah !
